Pencil Drawings - Use a Ballpen

One way to gain confidence in your drawings is to use a ball point pen! Using this medium will give you a sense of urgency and finality to your piece. You will surely create a lot of mistakes and some blotches (just like the one you see on the cheek of my drawing), but this practice will give you skill in the long run. You will realize how much pressure to apply for each stroke so your drawing wont look like a scribbled mess. This is as raw as it gets, no erasures or Ctrl+Z's involved. Have fun!

* Do share any piece you've made in the comments section. I'd love to see them.

Pencil Drawings - Draw using Reference

Drawing using reference is ok. Most illustrators including myself need to use any reference to draw something unfamiliar. It is a process of teaching your brain what lines you need to do for the structure you're trying to create. As you see in the drawing below, I've looked up some images of school buses.  I then chose to use the traditional bus and mix it with a newer face of a bus. Added the typical black stripes located on the sides of the bus, and there you have it. A slightly confused man who sees the bus thinking to himself "...but today's Saturday?!".
